The transition to fall and winter is an exciting time. You get to cozy up in warm, comfy clothes, and enjoy the flavors of the holiday months. With all of the great things that come with the change of seasons, there are also a few unwanted issues that can arise.

Just like our food changes with the seasons, so should our skincare products. The weather can play a major role in how your skin looks and feels, so it’s important to be prepared for how to care for it. In today’s blog I’ll be sharing three ways to keep your skin glowing all year round.

Common Skin Problems When The Seasons Change

Anyone who’s ever dealt with dry, itchy skin knows how the seasons can affect their skin glow. That’s one of the most common issues with the fall and winter transition. The dry air can dehydrate the skin, which can lead to irritation and inflammation. Having skincare products that moisturize and hydrate your skin at a deep level is important as the weather changes.

Another factor is that our skin loves consistency. So when the hot, humid air suddenly turns cold and dry, it can cause a reaction. Plus, with the temperature changes, it causes lifestyle changes. Think about how much more you use your heater and take long, hot showers in the colder months. These new habits can also cause your skin to react.

How To Keep Your Skin Glowing All Year

Whether you have a cabinet full of skincare products or you have a few staples you stick to, here are three ways to support your skin all year long.

1. Befriend Your Lymphatic System

Our lymphatic system is made up of lymph nodes and fluid, and is one of the ways our body gets rid of waste. Supporting your lymphatic system on a daily basis is a great way to get your skin to glow year-round. It helps to reduce bloat and inflammation, and promote blood flow. Dry brushing, bouncing on a trampoline, and gua sha facial massages are all great ways to promote lymphatic drainage. They’re especially great during seasonal transitions because our lymph system is also directly connected to our immune system.

2. Eat (or Drink!) Your Greens

Keeping your diet full of whole foods, especially vegetables, is a great way to keep your body and skin happy. Eating seasonally is even better for you, but it’s not always possible. Whenever I’m traveling, don’t have access to a kitchen, or simply don’t feel like chowing down on a plate full of plants, I’ll reach for Skinny Greens. The anti-inflammatory and antibacterial ingredients in this green powder make my skin glow, and it’s easily one of my favorite “skincare products.” Start taking it any time of year to reap the benefits.

3. Drink Your Electrolytes

I’m not talking about sugar-filled sports drinks. I’m talking about real, from-the-earth electrolytes. Keeping your body hydrated is probably my #1 tip for keeping your skin healthy and happy all year. Most water, unfortunately, is actually dehydrating. You want to be drinking live, mineral-rich water. The easiest way to do this is to add some real salt to your water. I add just a pinch to about 8 oz. of water throughout the day. You’ll notice you’re less thirsty, and over time your skin will prove it. If you don’t like the taste, you can also add a squeeze of lemon, which adds even more electrolytes!
