If you’re one of the many people who are obsessed with matcha, you’re not alone! Matcha has recently swept the nation and become the morning beverage of choice. So much so, that when a popular coffee house chain took their seasonal matcha drinks off the menu they experienced some serious backlash from the matcha-loving community. Even avid coffee drinkers are switching over to matcha for their morning caffeine fix (and if you’re a coffee drinker then you will understand how shocking that is).

According to Google Trends, the search term “matcha” is at an all time high (Over 117,000 searches per month to be exact!) So, needless to say, everyone is curious about matcha and what the uber-popular matcha latte tastes like [1]. And thanks to places like Starbucks, The Coffee Bean, and Tea Leaf, it’s easier than ever to try one for yourself, hot or iced!

But a common misconception about matcha is that it’s a complicated and time consuming drink to prepare, which couldn’t be farther from the truth. In spite of its popularity, you might be wondering what matcha actually is, the health benefits of matcha, and why it’s so effective when paired with SkinnyFit ZzzTox. I’ll answer all of those questions and even do you one better. I’m going to teach you how to make matcha lattes at home and boost zenergy! And don’t worry, i’ll answer that question too.

What is Matcha?

Matcha originates from ancient Japan and is a
finely ground powder made from specially grown and processed green tea leaves. So basically it’s really condensed green tea! About twenty days before the green tea is harvested, the leaves are shaded from direct sunlight boosting the chlorophyll levels in the leaves. Chlorophyll is the green pigment found in all plants, and is responsible for the deep green color of the matcha. The shading also boosts the levels of the amino acid L-Theanine, which promotes relaxation. The shading of the leaves are particularly important and is what sets matcha apart from traditional green tea. When the leaves are ready for harvest, they are laid out to try. Once the leaves rid their veins and stems they are stone-ground into matcha powder. To make the matcha drinkable, you simply add hot water, or any other hot beverage for that matter, to the matcha.

Health Benefits of Matcha

Green tea is widely known to have many health benefits. Some suggest that matcha contains the same health benefits as green tea, but due to its concentration, the benefits might even be stronger than that of green tea.

Matcha is Rich in Antioxidants

Matcha has loads of antioxidants. Antioxidants fight off free radicals and protect your cells and tissues against damage from harmful substances. One cup of matcha tea has as many antioxidants as 10 cups of loose leaf green tea! A teaspoon of matcha also contains 15 times more than the amount of antioxidants in pomegranates and blueberries, and 60 times more than the antioxidants found in spinach [2]!

Matcha Gives You Energy Without The Jitters

When matcha is being harvested, the shading increases the chlorophyll and L-Theanine levels which promotes relaxation. Matcha has about 30mg of caffeine/tsp of powder but it’s because of L-Theanine that you can experience an energy boost without getting the jitters. In comparison, one cup of coffee contains about 150mg/8oz cup. For centuries, matcha was used by Zen buddhists in order to endure long hours of intense meditation and to assure they not only remained alert and focused, but calm and relaxed.

Matcha Detoxifies The Body

As mentioned before, matcha contains chlorophyll and one of the major benefits of chlorophyll is that it improves liver detoxification. Studies have shown that it helps in cleaning heavy metals, that tend to accumulate in our body in different places, such as cadmium and mercury, pesticides and industrial pollutants, and detoxifying them [3].

What is Zenergy?

Zen is a term in Japanese Buddhism that means meditation. During meditation, you must be calm and relaxed. Energy is quite the opposite. When you have energy, you are alert and focused. Zenergy is the combination of being alert and focused, while remaining calm and relaxed. Combining matcha and SkinnyFit ZzzTox and adding it to your morning routine will help you achieve this zen-like state while also boosting your energy so you are ready to tackle your day!
