5 Delicious Ways To Make The Viral Ricotta Toast Trend!

Written by Shelby Torrese

There’s a new trendy toast on the block, and her name is ricotta toast. She’s versatile, can be sweet or salty, and never disappoints. When I first heard about it, my reaction was, “As in ricotta cheese toast?” I can’t say I was a huge ricotta cheese fan, and I’ve only ever had it on pizza before. After some patience and inspiration from social media, I have to say, I’m hooked!

After letting my creative juices flow, and realizing how delicious ricotta can actually be, I knew a how-to was in order. Today’s blog will cover five amazing ways to dress up a simple ricotta cheese toast.

Is Ricotta Toast The New Avocado Toast?

If you aren’t on TikTok, then you may have missed the very important message that ricotta toast is the new avocado toast. This trend took the internet by storm kind of like the way a new girl at school would. Everyone is skeptical of her, secretly wants to be her best friend, but is also nervous about what avocado would think. I know it sounds silly, but I don’t make the rules!

My argument with the ricotta vs avocado duel is that they can happily coexist! They both bring so much to the table (literally) in different ways, that I would argue you don’t have to choose between the two. For the sake of today’s post, however, we will be favoring ricotta.

Today’s post will cover sweet, savory, and always healthy, options to get started on making ricotta toast all on your own.

5 Ways To Make Ricotta Toast

1. Bruschetta ricotta toast

With ricotta pizza being my only experience with ricotta, I thought this was a good recipe to start with. You can’t go wrong with a classic bruschetta. This ricotta recipe starts with delicious toasted baguette slices, a generous amount of ricotta, and then the toppings! Tomatoes to start, of course, then some chopped basil, balsamic and extra virgin olive oil, and a big sprinkle of salt and pepper. If you’re fancy, you can top it with some capers, too. I think this is a good introduction to ricotta toast because there are familiar flavors to it. It’s not a huge leap from a typical bruschetta, so I think you’ll love the elevated flavors the ricotta adds.

2. Whipped ricotta toast with pears, walnuts, & honey

I hate to play favorites so soon, but this whipped ricotta toast is just…*chef’s kiss*! It’s the perfect balance of sweet and savory, crunchy and fluffy. This one is best stacked over good sourdough bread, in my opinion. You’ll start by whipping up some ricotta—either with a hand mixer or you can vigorously whisk the ricotta with a fork. Spread the fluffy goodness over the toast, top with thinly sliced pears, drizzles of honey, and chopped walnuts. Whipped ricotta toast looks fancy, but it’s actually so simple. Give it a try and tag @skinnyfit with your review!

3. Garlic mushroom ricotta toast

This toast is very similar to the bruschetta-inspired toast. You also start with a nice toasted baguette and the layers of ricotta, but we swap out the tomatoes for grilled mushrooms. Then, we add garlic instead of capers and replace the basil with some microgreens. I like broccoli sprouts, but any greens will do! This comes together so quickly that it’s the perfect appetizer or mid-party snack. Your guests will think you’re a pro.

4. Whipped ricotta toast with fresh peaches & blueberries

If you’ve been hoping for a sweet version, this is it! This whipped ricotta cheese toast with fruit is absolutely delicious and perfect for anyone looking for a dessert-style toast. Take your favorite thick, sweet bread and top it with whipped ricotta. Wash and slice a fresh peach, wash a handful of blueberries, and then layer them on top of your toast. I like to add some fresh chopped mint to this toast to balance out and enhance the ricotta. This is a great go-to brunch recipe, afternoon snack, or even late-night sweet tooth fix,

5. Smoked salmon ricotta toast

Last, but certainly not least, is the smoked salmon ricotta toast. If you love sliced salmon on bagels and cream cheese, you’re going to love this version. For this one, I love a good rye toast, but any bread will do. Then you top it with—you guessed it—ricotta! Add your slices of smoked salmon, and top with microgreens. I like to top it with some capers if I have some on hand. This toast is great for a savory breakfast option or a delicious quick lunch.
