Written by Liz Brown

A workout buddy can make all the difference when you can’t seem to find the motivation to exercise! Try these 7 partner exercises to make working out more fun!

Grab your gym buddy and have some fun!

How many times have you been motivated to work out but instead of lacing up your training shoes and squeezing into those cute new leggings you just bought, you somehow managed to find yourself curled up on your couch ready to binge watch Netflix with a glass of wine instead? 🙋‍🍷

For so many of you, this feeling might be all too familiar… #realtalk. And you know what, it’s totally fine to treat yo’ self from time to time and take a rest day, but when the Netflix & Chill days start to outnumber the amount of times you’ve broken a sweat in a week, well, that’s a problem. You can’t expect to reach your goals if you have a habit of making excuses for yourself, right? If you want to see some serious changes you have to do the work and make the commitment.

So, in times like this, however, you need something to light a fire under your butt to keep that motivation alive! 🔥 …and sometimes that something just happens to be a gym buddy! 👯‍

Benefits Of Partner Exercises

If you struggle staying motivated to work out, having a workout partner that shares your fitness goals is the perfect solution to get you moving.

As a lover of partner exercises myself, I’ve found this to be a reliable solution to help those who need a little more motivation than others. This is a great approach for you and your partner to not only hold each other accountable, but to also to have some fun while you’re at it!

If you plan on using a gym buddy on the reg, however, my personal (and professional) recommendation would be to find a partner that shares the same fitness goals as you. I only say this because aligning your workouts with your personal fitness goals will help each of you see progress a lot faster.

I have been a Personal Trainer for nearly 6 years and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve worked with partners that had completely different goals and struggled to see their results in a timely manner.

So, when finding a gym buddy, you really should be on the same page when it comes to your workout style and preferences. You also want to have fun during a partner workout routine, right? If one of you loves high conditioning but hates weightlifting and the other despises cardio and can’t get enough of the weight room it will be really hard for you both to stay motivated if you’re doing a workout you hate.

Partner Workout For The Win!

Another suggestion would be to pick someone that is known for “putting their money where their mouth is”… and what I mean by that is that you don’t want a partner who is uber flakey and known to cancel plans or is unreliable.

Your partner should be someone you trust and have mutual respect with. This will help you both in the long run because relationships and friendships that have mutual trust and respect are more likely to be committed when they share a common goal.

So now it’s time to get stoked about this partner workout because it is SO FUN! The best part about this partner workout routine though, is that no matter who your partner is or what fitness level they are, each movement is achievable and effective for both people. So if you haven’t found your perma-partner, don’t worry, you can still give these partner exercises a go ‘round and still have fun!

This partner workout is 3 rounds total of 7 exercises at 20 reps per exercise!

Are you ready?… LET’S GO!
